Software Stock Control

Stock Control Software Case Study

With over 300,000 square feet of high bay storage WH2L is one of the leading providers of high quality third party storage in the Yorkshire area.

With general storage, decanting of containers, pick pack and assembly WH2L covers all aspects of a sophisticated warehouse operation.

Initially the WITS system was a small business model but has grown to match the throughput and operational complexity of a large warehouse management operation.

To control the warehouse operation WH2L use a 10 user server based WITS system together with the WITS_RTP real time radio data interface and the WITS_DTP data capture terminal interface.

All anticipated goods entering the warehouse are transferred electronically to the WITS system which then provides scheduling information for the Goods In dock operations. Following receipt of goods the customer is again updated electronically of arrived product.

All incoming pallets are barcoded where necessary and receipted onto the WITS warehouse management system using real time radio data terminals with integral barcode scanners. All stock is scanned into locations, again using radio terminals.

A sophisticated pick scheduling system handles all customer requests for shipments and produces picking information for transmission to both narrow aisle trucks and vehicle loading trucks. All Goods Out product is scanned both from aisle locations as well as scanned onto the vehicle. This ensures total pallet tracking and eliminates incorrect pallet / incorrect load problems.

All customers have the ability to access their current stock levels together with Goods In / Goods Out transactions via the WITS Data Bureau. Customers can also request timed emails containing stock and status reports including stock split between customer divisions.

The WITS system produces detailed invoicing on a per customer basis for storage, RHD, small part picking, container handling etc.

Data capture terminals are used for perpetual inventory stocktaking with data download into the WITS software stock control system.

Gary Wagstaff Managing Director of WH2L explains "We have used WITS Warehouse Systems for over ten years and each time we have moved the operation to larger premises or operated over split sites the systems have expanded seamlessly to supply all our operational requirements".

Both on site and on-line system support is supplied from the WITS premises in Leeds.

The integrated WITS systems were supplied to WH2L on a rental basic so avoiding high up front costs.

As Jason Ward Warehouse Manager explains "It would be impossible to track and report on the massive throughput of this warehouse without the WITS Warehouse Management System".
